HISTORY

The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health was part of the Department of Medicine, Community, and Child Health until 24^th August 2012 when it was made an independent entity.  It is located at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Milimani Nakuru. When the department was under the Department of Medicine it had only one permanent lecturer Dr Wakube who was later seconded to be the chief medical officer at Egerton University. Over the years the department grew to have 6 permanent staff and a secretary.

there was a shift in staffing in the department when the secretary was transferred to another department. Also, three faculty members left the department leaving a large gap in the teaching faculty. Over the last one year wo adjunct teaching staff were recruited

The department has been receiving assistance from non-teaching staff from other departments and  paediatricians working within the Nakuru County referral and teaching Hospital and private practitioners working within Nakuru town.
